The cake is a lie... Print E-mail

Unless you've been living under a rock, you've probably heard of the Orange Box.  In what can only be called the single best value in gaming history, you get 5 full games for the price of one (7 if you count Counterstrike Source and HL2 Deathmatch).  Sure there have been compilations before, but 3 of these games are completely new.  At any rate, none of this is news, I'm just echoing what nearly every reviewer out there has already stated.  I'm here to talk about one of those games in particular.

That's Slash... so is that Flea and Ozzie?

Guitar Hero 3 hits this month.  On the 28th to be exact.  So how does a Guitar Hero tournament on the 27th sound?

Now I want to try something a little different, so expect a surprise.  Those that came to our Halo night will know that we get to do things a little differently since we're the small guys.  Excpect something similar to Halo night, only with prizes, nice prizes.  And I'm not talking about a gift certificate here.  I don't want to give too much away lest I get myself in trouble, so I guess you'll just have to come and find out what the grand prize will be.  Oh, and if you can, stop in and pre-order GH3 so we know which system you want it for, you know, so that we have it ready to go, not like we're giving it away or anything ;).

We'll start the rocking at 7 p.m., with registration going all day long and ending 15 minutes prior to the start of the tournament.  You can come in and sign up for it at any time prior to that.  There will be a $5 entry fee which we will collect the night of.  If we get enough players, we'll break it up by difficulty level.  Otherwise we'll just let everybody play on whichever difficulty level they're most comfortable with.  However, this will require a lot of honesty on your part.  Please don't insist that you're shakey at best on medium when you've already perfected expert.  Keep in mind that it's pretty obvious when you're playing below your skill level.  The system will be the 360, so bring your own controllers if you so desire.  We all know it's more fun to shred on your own axe than somebody else's but don't worry, we'll supply the guitars if you don't have one.

As far as the structure of the tournament, each round will consist of one set list ending with the final set.  The starting set will be determined by the number of players.  We'll ask you (those of you not currently playing) which songs you'd like to see played for each match up, again, limited to a particular set.  Repeat songs will be allowed, if the crowd demands it.  So just like a real rock concert, shout out the songs you want to hear, only this time it'll actually get played.  Except for Freebird.  We're going to reserve that for the grand finale.  That's right, the final round will be Freebird, all 10 minutes of it.

Tournament Ideas and Funny Cats Print E-mail

So here's the ugly truth about our Soul Calibur 2 Tournament.  Nobody showed.  Ew.  So I get it, the masses have spoken with the sound of silence.  Gamecube fighting games aren't popular enough for tournaments unless they have Samus and Pikachu in them.

Alright, so here's the question that I want all 4 of you to answer, what next?  I'm thinking either Guitar Hero 2 or Halo 3.  Now neither of these are mutually exclusive, I'm just trying to figure out which one you guys would rather play first.  I'm thinking not this weekend but the one following.  I also want to know which time is better.  Saturday nights or Sunday afternoons?  I always thought Sundays were a nice day since it's a common day off, but as it turns out people still go to church.  Weird huh?

Now here's where you come in.  I want emails, your emails.  Filled with your tournament ideas, and maybe some lol catz pictures.  I love those cats.  Anyway, yeah, ideas, if you want it, we'll do it.  Make it happen!

And now,  a funny cat picture:

Never not funny

I feel like I got hit by a Warthog.

So uh, what happened?

Well, I'd say the launch party worked out rather well.  Were you here?  Why weren't you?  Seriously, you missed out.  I'm sure that line you sat in was real fancy and all, but we had Game Fuel for free.  Also, I'd say that everybody here got home a good half hour faster, at least.  Sounds nice huh?

Ok, so maybe I'm bragging a bit, but really, make sure you're here for our next big event, it's worth it.  We didn't even ask a single person if they wanted a warranty with that, or if they wanted to pre-order something else, or well you get the idea, that's gotta be worth something right?  I think our next big midnight release will be for Smash Bros Brawl.  Of course, this all depends on if the game is street dated or not.  One way or another we'll be sure to have at least one more big release night between now and Christmas.

You'll know where to be next time right?  If you don't, I've got at least one more thing to convince you.  We've got a 24 hour Wawa in our shopping center.

I rest my case.

Halo Party Tonight Print E-mail
Written by Sean
Monday, 24 September 2007

I don't think I need to say much more than that, but I will anyway.

Tonight is our Halo 3 launch party.  It's going to be a hell of a lot more fun than standing in line for 3 hours.  Why is that you ask?  Well, because you're going to be playing a certain game's multiplayer, hours before everyone else (well, most everybody else).  There's going to be food, prizes, and plenty of Mountain Dew.

Looks like we're going to have 4 tvs with 4 360's running.  I'm going to cap it at 2 people per 360 due to crowd control issues, but that's still 4 on 4.  And while 8 people are playing the game, everybody else will have a chance to pay off their copy of the game, so that at midnight we'll just hand them out and you can get home as fast as possible.  Obvious restrictions apply, nobody under 17 will be allowed past 10, or to purchase the game without a parent.  If you can talk your parents into hanging out with you all night, then come on by, if not, there's always tomorrow.  Other than that, if you're just hanging out, that's cool, but gameplay will be reserved for anybody picking up a copy of Halo.  That means that if you're coming by to snag some free food and play Halo for free, you're out of luck.  The store is only so big, we're going to be packed as it is.

Now, what if you didn't pre-order?  Well, there are some slots left, not a whole lot, but enough, so you've still got a shot, just don't expect them to last long.

The Soul Still Burns! Print E-mail

You can almost smell the burning soul. Ew.

Here's the announcement.  More details to follow.

Soul Calibur 2 Tournament, this Sunday!   September 23rd!

We're hosting our second tourney, this time it will be Soul Calibur 2 for the Gamecube.  I know, I know, the cube's controller stinks.  However, if you have an arcade stick, you are welcomed to bring and use that.  I chose the Cube version due to actually having it, as well as it being the best selling version of 2 and thus the one you've most likely played.

It'll be a $5 registration fee, prizes will be gift certificates and other goodies, the amounts will depend on the total registered players.  The rules will be following shortly, as I think we're going to have to ban a few characters (warning Link players, brace yourselves).

Registration will be from now until 12 p.m. on Sunday, at that time we will collect the registration fee.  The tournament will begin at 1 p.m..  There will be a loser's bracket, the winner of which will also receive a prize along with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

Last time was fun, if a little hectic, this time I promise will go a lot smoother and will be a blast.  So even if you're not a SC2 expert, come down and have some fun, it's a great pick up and play fighter, and at the very least you can eat our food and drink our soda.  Oh, and don't forget, that Monday is our Halo 3 release party, if you can't make it for SC2, be sure not to miss Halo 3 night, that's going to kick some serious ass.
